Oct 21, 2020 Sunderland MA: Fall Festivities & Travel Guide

We decided to go visit Mike’s Corn Maze in Sunderland, Massachusetts. Each year, they pick a theme for the maze, and this year the theme was Vote 2020. The stalks have never been higher (sorry I had to)! No matter who you chose to vote for, get out and go vote to let your voice be heard. I am oh so bad with directions. Thank goodness Sam was able to lead the way in this 8 acre maze. An interesting part about the maze was that it had different political trivia installations in the maze. During the trivia installations you can cast your vote using marbles. Such a neat way to make the maze interactive. At the end of the season they tally the marbles and let you know the results on each political question. I actually learned a lot while visiting the maze. Cannot wait to cast my vote this election!
Once done with the maze, we stepped up to use the potato launcher. YES, there was an actual potato launcher here. Fueled by compressed gas, this launcher was no joke. Sam, hit one of the two hardest targets twice and got us free apple cider donuts. My day was made. Look at that spud go. We then made our way around the rest of the farm. There was a viewing deck of the maze, farm animals, a small pumpkin patch, go karts for kids and adults, and horse rides. We checked out Mike's Cafe on the farm and got a bite to eat. As we were on the way out, we noticed that they were making fresh popcorn. YUM.
We then made our way across the street to a fresh produce stand. I am a sucker for a cute farm stand with local produce. Of course we got some fresh corn.
We then took a ride through town and then up to to Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation. You can drive to the summit or hike. Since we were pressed on time we drove up to the summit. The views were breathtaking of the Connecticut River Valley. People were having picnics and grilling, and there is a viewing tower to climb for even better views.
Last but not least, we visited Yankee Candle Flagship store in Deerfield, MA. This was not planned. We drove by and decided to take a look through the store. Not only does it have a massive candle display room but several themed rooms selling various goods throughout. The store had a Christmas wonderland room, toy room, general store, and even food vendors inside. It also has a pouring station to pour your own Yankee candle. Unfortunately, due to covid, it was closed. I got a pumpkin scented candle. It is perfect for the fall season. Definitely worth a stop inside.
