State Fair of Texas

Step right up and try your hand! These were the words that I heard when I passed the many carnival games. This was my first time visiting the State Fair of Texas, which was unlike any fair experience I’ve ever been to. I’ll speak on my favorite part first … the FOOD! Every year they have competition called Big Tex Awards where contestants create a unique dish to be featured at the fair. There are two categories to compete in, savory or sweet. For instance one of the winners included Deep Fried Skillet Potato Melt in a Boat which is basically skillet potato griddled, breakfast sausage and Babybel cheese mixed together, seasoned, and put in the deep fryer and served atop the potato skin. Finished off with with cheddar, bacon bits, and a sour cream chipotle sauce. SO if that wasn’t enough ha we decided to go with 2018 winner Sweet Bakin Bacon. This was my absolute favorite and a must try if you go this year! It is bacon and cream cheese wrapped in funnel cake batter and deep fried! Almost everything at the fair is deep fried. We also tried Bacon Wrapped Mozzarella, Fried Oreos, Lollipop Fried Bacon Wrapped Quail Breast on a Stick, Jalapeños and Cheese Sausage on a Stick (can you tell we like food)!  Interestingly enough, the State Fair of Texas included livestock exhibits. Spread across the fair’s 277 acres are different livestock locations where fair goers can learn about the cattle, swine, chicken, and other livestock. My absolute favorite area for the livestock was the birthing barn. We got to see baby chicks just after being hatched and a momma pig with her newborn piglets born just a few hours earlier. The fair also included livestock judging as well as stunt dogs performing tricks. The State Fair of Texas has something for everyone including water shows, live bands, carnival games, carnival rides, auto shows, and as well as all of the food you can eat. We rode the giant state fair of Texas ferris wheel, which is a must! It kind of helped us plan out where we wanted to go, since we got a birds eye view of the fair grounds. This place can take you all day just to walk around look everything going on! The fair even has concerts scheduled throughout the day. It is open Sep 28, 2018 – Oct 21, 2018.  Outfit Deets: I love all things vintage I feel what is old can be made new with a modern day spin. This particular outfit was so comfy. The skirt is adorable and is only $17 and cannot be beat since you can wear it to so many different places by dressing it up or down! Plus, who doesn’t love a good graphic tee especially when it comes to a legendary band. Currently, still looking for a graphic tee with tacos or quest but I don’t want to be to cheesy LOL (pun intended). Bring your walking shoes because there is so much to see and
