Prior to ice skating, we stopped in at King Arthur’s Flagship Bakery store, which is located in Norwich, VT. The bakery is the first flour company in the United States and was started in 1790.  King Arthur’s gives back to employees and the community. The bakery provides leftover food to local hunger relief efforts. It also purchases wheat from local farms, unbleached, and GMO free. For its employees, the company is 100% employee owned. As a bonus, you can watch the chefs baking pastries, homemade soups, and pizza using fresh ingredients through a glass window. 

I got a seasonal heart shaped chocolate cake and coffee. At the retail store inside, I bought flour to make French bread in our bread maker. Their retail store consists of a chefs paradise that includes cook books, baking tools, and a broad assortment of flour and baked good mixes. If you have extra time, try your hand at baking. We visited Lake Morey Resort last year for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway. Lake Morey Resort has a variety of winter activities including cross country skiing, ice hockey, and snowshoeing. I stumbled upon this place online, because this resort is not well known. However, it is a true hidden gem. 

We visited for the day and decided to skate the 4.3 mile trail on Lake Morey. The ice skating trail is unique since it is the longest ice skating trail in the United States. This ice skating trails have stunning views of Lake Morey with the winter landscape surrounding you on one side and log cabins on the other. Full disclosure, I cannot ice skate so this trail took some time for me to get around. I had to rent ski poles just to stand up lol. Skating is so much harder than it looks, but I was dedicated to finish the trail. We took our time skating around the lake and spending the day together laughing, because I could barely stand up and Sam coaching me on how to skate. I have absolutely, no idea how Sam can be professional at all winter activities when we both grew up in the south. I must be athletically challenged. You do not have to be a guest at the resort to skate on the trail. Ice skate rentals are located inside the resort or free if you bring your own ice skates. Highly, recommend spending at day out here with loved ones a true winter escape.
